I’m so excited. I found this trailer when I was browsing the video guide at TVGuide.com. I still need to preorder my book from Amazon.com!! I can’t believe it’s just over 2 weeks away until I can get the new book!

I’m such a geek.

Ok, now that I’ve answered these, I’d like to discuss a few of my answers because one word isn’t enough…

#17 Wish list item? I said peace. I don’t mean peace as in world peace, although that would be great too. I just meant that I wish my kids would quit fighting. That also explains #33. The last time I cried was the other day because Austin was being a jerk to Ryan, as always, which made Ry want to go to his dad’s house. It’s rare that Ry wants to stay here because Austin is always so mean to him. I was mad because I had only seen Ryan twice in the two weeks prior so I let Austin have it. I threatened him with going to reconciliation, with being grounded, with withholding family fun day, going back to work, etc. I also called Chad and let him know how mad I was and he agreed that Austin’s attitude needs to change. So Austin is on probation, so to speak. He’s been better the past couple of days, so we may be making some progress.

Other stuff for the people not interested in gardening…

The kids are signed up for the summer reading program at the library. It starts today and runs through August 18th. Pre-readers have to have 10 books read to them and independent readers have to read for 720 minutes. For Austin’s first book he chose was The Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. Ryan has yet to choose a book.

I finished reading Gap Creek by Robert Morgan last week and started Cold Mountain by Charles Frazier this week. Gap Creek was good, but left me feeling sad when it was over. Cold Mountain is pretty good so far.

Austin has been helping Marla with Safety Town and Ryan is participating in Safety Town for the 3rd year. Austin starts football camp on Wednesday too. The summer seems like it’s going by so fast already!!

My So Called Garden

June 18, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Well, not really a garden. It’s a few plants in some pots in the back yard. I’ll warn you now, if you’re not interested in gardening, you might want to skip this one.

I have two tomato plants – a Yellow Stuffer and a Roma. We don’t really eat tomatoes, except in salsa, so two plants should be fine. The Yellow Stuffer is supposed to look like a yellow bell pepper when it’s ripe. It’s an Heirloom variety so I’m going to save all of the seeds that I can and hopefully give them away to whoever is interested. I’ll save some for myself for next year too. Both are starting to get flowers already!

I have two pepper plants – a purple bell pepper and a jalapeno plant. Both for salsa. I’m going to make some colorful salsa this year. Hopefully I’ll be able to pick up more veggies at the farmers market and we can make up some salsa and can it. I’ve never done it before, but there’s a first time for everything. The purple bell pepper is supposed to taste like a green pepper. So far the one plant has 5 little peppers forming. The largest is about 2 inches long already. There are about 10 more blooms on the plant so I don’t know how many peppers it will produce.

I also have two Emperor zucchinni plants. I love zucchinni and buy it pretty much every time we go to the grocery store. I’m hoping to have enough to make some bread and to freeze some to make bread later.

I need to find some sort of organic fertilizer for the veggies. I really want to get a compost tumbler but they are expensive. They have a community compost pile in town, but I’ve heard horror stories of people using weed killer in their lawns and taking the clippings to the compost and when people use the compost in their gardens, it kills the plants. Plus, I want organic and who knows what’s in that compost up there. I’d love to be able to make my own but my yard is too small for a compost pile and plus, the kids would get into it. A composter is much cleaner and out of the way.

I also have some lemon thyme and lemon basil planted. Next year I’m going to have a separate herb garden with lots of different herbs. It will be set up more like a flower bed, so it will have a lot of blooming herbs like lavender. No mint though because that will take over the whole yard. I can get that at the farmer’s market if I need it bad enough.

Next year the plan is to make a small garden in the back yard and grow more vegetables. I’ll have to reseach and see how big we’ll need it. I want to be able to grow beans, lettuce, onions, and cucumbers and maybe even pumpkins in addition to the zucchinni, tomatoes, and peppers.

I think I need to get a bigger freezer.

My flower garden is coming along too. My Redbud tree never bloomed this year, but it’s a young tree and we had a pretty harsh winter as far as Redbuds are concerned. My black eyed susans are really full this year and I’ve noticed a couple small plants coming up from the seeds from last years plants. My zebra grass is getting big and my hostas are huge. I’m hoping I’ll be able to divide them next year to plant in the back yard around the deck. My Moonbeam coreopsis spread like mad. Last year I got 3 tiny little plants and this year I have 3 huge plants and one small plant that must have come from a seed from one of last year’s plants. I’m going to divide that plant as soon as the deck is finished so I can plant some of them in back.

I fertilized the flowers with Miracle Grow last week. My clematis is so wimpy looking and the bloom wasn’t as vibrant as it should be. I think it just needed more fertilizer. Our soil sucks and I didn’t do much to amend it.

Ok, so I’ve rambled enough about the garden…

I Can’t Let Justin Win!

June 11, 2007 · 2 Comments

Sorry I haven’t blogged in a while. It’s not that I’m never online, because I am quite often, I just get sidetracked with my mommy boards, MySpace, and Flickr.

So, what’s new with us?

Jason and I are going to be Auntie Christy & Uncle Jason once again. Jason’s sister is pregnant with #6!

Baseball season is over, finally! It’s not that I don’t live baseball, because I do, it’s just with a toddler, it’s no fun. Jacob is all over the place. Austin did an awesome job this year, primarily at 3rd base and 1st base. He even got to pitch in a couple of games, which he really liked. Ryan was the star of the t-ball field. Every one loved when he would get up to bat because he was so into the game. Here’s a pic of him up to bat.
Strike One!

Jacob and Gracie are both doing great. We’re still using the cloth diapers and I like them sooo much better than the disposables. Gracie is laughing like crazy and Jacob is starting to talk.

Tomorrow is the last day of school. Jason is going to take one day a week off this summer for “Family Fun Day”. He’s got a ton of vacation time that he needs to use up so we figured this was a good way to do it. We have plans to go to the zoo, Sauder Farms & Craft Village, Cedar Point, Greenfield Village, etc. I can’t wait!!

I’m on a quest to get one of my pics on Explore on Flickr. It’s not easy! I just keep taking pics and posting them and adding them to groups and commenting on other pics hoping that someone will take notice of mine. I’m having fun doing it and it’s keeping me out of trouble. You can check out my Flickr account here.
