Off Work

January 25, 2007 · 2 Comments

Well, Monday was my last day at work. I am relieved to be home only because it’s a lot less painful, but it is boring being in the house all day. I can’t really go anywhere because I can’t drive. Ugh.

Since I’ve been off, I’ve made a glove. I plan on starting the other one today. It’s an oatmeal color with dark brown stripes. It’s made out of wool and is super toasty. I bought some yarn to make a scarf to match for me and then some gloves for Jason.

I’ve also finished another book. I read “The Glass Castle” by Jeannette Walls. Wow, what a childhood that woman had. It was a great read and I highly recommend it. I think I’m going to start “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott today.

I also need to start my bookmark for my virtual Stitch N Bitch group. We’ve decided to make each other bookmarks and mail them. I think I’m going to make a book “scarf”. Like a little mini scarf that you can use as a bookmark.

Pain and suffering

January 18, 2007 · Leave a Comment

My pelvic separation is bad again. I’m at the point where it’s probably not the best idea to drive and since Jason didn’t go to work today, I’m not going to work today. I didn’t feel comfortable driving and after sitting upright in my chair all day, there is no way I could drive home. I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon, if Jason isn’t feeling better, I’ll have to try to find someone else to take me there. I have a feeling that I won’t be working much longer.

In knitting news, I screwed up the red scarf and now I need to take out about 20 rows because I was trying to follow the pattern from memory and my memory must not be the greatest. Oh well, they’ll get it next year.

I made a cozy for my cell phone from a pattern that I found in One Skein Wonders. It took me about an hour total. I still have to sew a button on it, but I need to find my needle to do that. I’ll take a pic when it’s completely done. Today, I might start my wrist warmers or Gracie’s blanket. The socks are being put on hold because my feet, ankles, and legs are swelling and they look terrible with cankles. I do want to get some “manly” wool to make Jason a pair of wool socks. Maybe I can make it to the yarn shop sometime today and pick some yarn up.

I’m over it.

I’m over hating my cat.  His name is Sammy, btw, named after Sammy Sosa.  The fat cat is ironically named Albert.  Not after Fat Albert, but after Albert Pujols.  My kids got to pick out the names and they are big baseball fans.  They were litter mates…

I’ve decided to shower Sammy with affection.  Hopefully that will do the trick and keep him happy.  I did a little research online and found that cats do not respond to negative attention when they are like this.  They do it because they want your attention, so I’ll just pay more attention to him and hopefully that will fix it.  Until Gracie is born at least.

Sammy has major personality.  He’s not shy at all and we actually have to lock him in the basement when we have company over because he thinks he’s a dog and will jump up on people and want to sit in their lap.  Let’s face it, not everyone likes cats, so this is a bit of a problem, especially if someone is allergic.  Sammy will also force you to pet him by pushing his nose under your hand until your hand is on his head and then on his back.  He also sleeps at my feet every night.  Albert is the same in a lot of ways but he is a little more timid.  Albert is a little more patient than Sammy and doesn’t get into the same trouble that Sammy does.  Both cats are good with the kids, especially Jacob, but Albert a little more so than Sammy.  I joke that Albert puts up with Jacob climbing all over him because he’s so fat and there is extra cushion.  He’ll just lay there and take it where Sammy will eventually get up and walk away.  Albert actually looks for it and will lay down right in front of Jacob.

All in all, they are both really good cats.  They even still have their claws and have never intentionally scratched anyone, including the 10 ½ month old monster that tries to terrorize them on a daily basis.

I hate my cat

January 15, 2007 · 3 Comments

Well, it’s not my cat, it’s Ryan’s cat and I hate it anyways. I came to the conclusion today that knitters are cat people. Just about every knitter has a picture of their cat on their blog. Normally, I am a cat person too. I still love the fat cat, but the skinny cat royally pissed me off.

He has a habit of peeing when he’s mad at me. The first time he did it was right after Jacob was born. He was mad that he wasn’t getting all of the attention any more and peed in Jacob’s toy box. I taught him a lesson by taking him to the vet the next day to get his balls chopped off. He also peed in Jacob’s moses basket because he was mad at me, peed on the air mattress because he was mad that we watched my mom’s dog for the weekend, and now he just peed on my favorite chair. Why did he pee in the chair, you ask. Because we put up a baby gate so Jacob can’t get up the stairs and he’s too afraid to jump over it. Heck, if the fat cat can get his obese body over it, surely the skinny cat can too. But no, he would rather sit on the other side and meow until you let him through the gate. Then he will walk over to the chair, jump up on it and pee.

I’m so mad right now.

Oh, and sugar free strawberry preserves have no taste. Just incase you were wondering…

Sunday Bloody Sunday

January 14, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Well, the weekend is now over and it’s back to the grind tomorrow. Yipee!

I made some progress knitting this weekend, but I have no pics to show for it. I am 3/4 of the way done with my first sock. I could have worked on it a little more, but I was busy doing other things like coloring my hair, reading, watching tv, etc.

So we went to the used book sale again. I picked up 4 books and Ryan got 6 and together we spent a whopping $10.

Here are my purchases:

I’m kind of bummed that Gap Creek has the Oprah’s Book Club thingy on the front. I’ve been wanting to read this book for a while but I have been resisting buying it until they come out with an edition without the Oprah thingy on the front. Nothing against Oprah, but I like my books to have “normal” covers. I don’t like movie covers and I don’t like book club covers. But, seeing as how it was only $2, I really couldn’t pass it up.

In other news, we’re supposed to have an ice storm tonight. We’re under a warning right now. We had freezing rain this morning, but the roads weren’t too bad. I did manage to take this picture a few hours ago. It’s of the Japanese Maple in the front yard.

Hopefully it’s not too bad tomorrow. If the roads are icy, I’m NOT going to work until they are clear. I’m not risking my life for a job I hate.

I have about 6 inches done on the cuff of the sock so far. I would take a pic, but I don’t feel like getting up right now. My pelvis hurts and I’m lazy. So there.

I made up a pattern today to make a baby blanket for Gracie. It’s going to be a solid color, probably some shade of pink, and made either with worsted weight yarn or bulky yarn. I’m going to do a garter stitch border around it and it will be mostly stockinette stitch. I’m going to spell her name across it and put hearts under it. I’m going to do the opposite stitch for those parts. It’s hard to describe, but I’ve got it all figured out. I even made a chart in Excel to graph it all out so I know what stitches to do. I can’t wait to get started on it. I just need to get some yarn and some circular needles.

Tomorrow I will probably go up to the yarn shop and pick up some yarn and the needles that I need. We also have to take Jacob and Ryan to get their 2nd round of flu shots and we’re going to stop at the book sale on the way home. Not that I need another book right now, but I’m addicted to buying them.

Jacob is being a monster right now so I’m going to cut this post short. Toodles!

Oh and Justin, I fixed the pics. Is that better?

My works in progress

Ok, here are the socks that I started last night.  I haven’t had much time to work on them, but they seem to go pretty fast.  So far, so good.  I’m using a pattern from Moda Dea.  You can find it here.

Here’s the red scarf so far, I have probably just over 12 inches done.

I’m here…

January 10, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I’ve decided to switch my blog to WordPress as I like their features a lot better than Blogger. So far things seem a lot more user friendly.

Anyways, I can’t import my old blog since I switched to the “New Blogger”, so if you want to catch up on the old posts, my link is in the sidebar.
